My daughter started school this month, she is only 4 and seems so tiny to be at school! Anyway it got me thinking about my school days and what I was interested in when I was at school. I started learning French at an after school club in Winchester where I lived when I was 8 and when I was 9 had the opportunity to visit the Chateau of Versailles in Versailles near Paris on a French Exchange. This beautiful building really inspired me to want to create luxury interiors as it made such an impression on me.
. ..I had always loved art and design but was drawn to the social aspect of working closely with people to enhance their environment, through being a designer. I really believe well considered interior design and organisation of rooms can improve peoples lives.
When I was 15 I took work experience in a soft furnishings store and they offered me a Saturday job tidying up the wallpaper and fabric books and helping make up curtains and blinds (mostly Austrian back then!) in the workroom. I loved working with the patterns and colours and this led me to take A-level in Art and Design with Textile Printmaking. After this I went on to Art College to the Surrey Institute of Art and Design to get my degree in Interior Design, studying; Architecture and Building Technology, History of Art and Design , French and International Marketing.
I still have a passion for textiles and love putting together schemes with lots of textures and patterns to give a luxurious feel to a room. I believe this is one of the easiest changes to make to a room to add glamour and drama and a feeling of quality. By using carefully selected new window treatments, dressing the bed and refreshing upholstery you can really transform a room even with existing furniture in some cases.
If you have a holiday home in Cornwall and are looking for some inspiration you can make an initial appointment with me which is free where we can discuss your needs. I then write up a design brief and give you a price for the work outlined in the brief. It’s then over to you to make your decision on how you’d like to proceed.
There’s a new fixed fee service for design concepts for holiday homes which you can find by clicking here: Holiday Home Design
Alternatively for budding designers I also offer a remote service on Skype for those who want to do more of the scheme themselves but want advice when they are putting the scheme together. Email “SKYPE” to firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be contacted regards this or see our Services page for more details.
I’d love to hear what inspires you to create a beautiful room, maybe its a piece of art that someone special gave you or maybe you are just tired of looking at the same four walls! Please go ahead and leave me a comment below.
